Ayah, that's what I expected because Near didn't seem worried in the least bit.

Spoilers:
Near and Light predicted the switching notebook plan. Light didn't expect the third Kira to make a tiny mistake which proved fatal to his plans.
At the end, Near and Mellow won. Near tells Lights this: me and mellow were nothing compared to L individually. Together, we surpassed L.

Just read the rest of the manga.
The beginning of ep 37 starts with chapter 103.
Near wins. Light is killed by Ryuk. Misa commits suicide.

Near wins it's actually surprising what happens in episode 38.
