Does anybody feel the same way I do?

Question

I mean I am just saddened how the United States National Soccer Team just won the Gold Cup and the stadium was half empty. I mean first of all I am a Mexico fan but when not supporting Mexico I think of the US as my second team because of me being Mexican American. I think this great group of players but they deserve more. Personally I am happy for those players with hispanic heritage like Mastroeni, Bornstein, Bocanegra and you can count in Donovan since he grew up with Mexican Americans here in California. What do you think? Is winning a stepping stone for American soccer?

Yeah when Mexico isn't playing the US my second team is the US. I mean I am still American nobody can take that away from me

It's ridiculous in the third biggest city in the country that there were way more fans of the visiting team than the national team. And if you look at the yahoo home page sports headline do you see that the national team won the north american football championiship? No you see some pitcher for a canadian team ALMOST got a no hitter. If Mexico had won, there would be millions of people in the streets, the newspapers would have it on the front page, etc. Sometimes I think we don't deserve to have as good of a national team as we have.

It's going to be a long time, if ever, that soccer gets the respect it deserves in the US.

By the way, I was surprised to read the US is your 2nd favorite team, I really thought most mexican americans hated the US team.

Just because the USA won the Copa Oro doesn't automatically translate to recognition or respect, thats including the eyes of their own country and the soccer community.

And even though I am American before Mexican, I can see the passion El Tri plays with more than the USA Nat. Team does, which is why it hurts even more when they lose.

Although I will admit it was endearing to see the USA team celebrating. It was as if the Copa Oro trophy made up for all the fans they don't have, and I mean that in the sincerest way possible.

Yes I feel the same way as Mexican American. Until the US makes better tournament in World Cup. Confederacions, Copa America, and possibly Libertadores then I would say that the US is a team to be reckoned with and has improved in the game. Mexico will be the team to beat in Concacaf until the US achieves what I previously mentioned.

Sadly, Mexico losing Copa Oro has gotten parallels to the US having losses in basketball and baseball at nations´tournaments (or at least given bad impressions with how they play in such tournaments)

The US team is really good, better than what a lot of people think just because of one bad world cup last year. However, I would like people to note that Landon Donovan's parents are German, so he actually already was influenced by soccer before the Mexican Americans

I'm mexican American, but I was born in the US and lived in Spain. My loyalty is with the US national team 100 percent. I am glad the US beat Mexico, maybe Mexico has better players, but the US plays smarter. And please stop making excuses that the refs this or that. Accept he loss with dingity. No sean Gilipollas!

this was what i was saying a while back. with the arrival of beckham, hopefully he can raise the awareness of soccer in the US. it doent matter if you like David Beckham or not, he's doing us a great service by coming here. sure, he's getting paid well, but he still decided to come to the US. Madrid are wanting him dearly to stay but he's intent on coming to the US. like him, i hope he will raise the level and influence others to grace the American soil. i dont like ESPN in the respects that they dissed david beckham. they make him out to be some kind of money hog, instead of embracing him to push soccer in the US. they are killing it themselves.

im happy to see americans wanting soccer to thrive in the states. i know its not anywhere near EPL or La liga, but we have to start somewhere, and getting beckham to go along the ride is a great idea. i know Pele was here, but during his time, there was like 11 teams and no major sponors.

I'm American and I LOVE BOTH U.S. and Mexico theya re truly a good bunch of players.

And yeah Donovan knows PERFECT spanish no accents or anything, i'm sure he got influenced by the peopel he grew up with aswell.

i agree with you Rafa, im a Spanish-American, but when im not supporting Spain, im proud to support our boys in the States. it was a great game, and Mexico did great. i hope we meet again in Copa America. then the stakes will be higher!
