I have tried several different kinds of pet food storage containers and have yet to find one that I like. So far I have tried the stackable storage bins by blitz (http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441781987&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025790&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1182728312968&itemNo=10&In=Dog&N=2025790&Ne=2) and one by rubbermaid I believe (http://www.petco.com/product/12461/Rubbermaid-Pets-Scoop-n-Store-Pet-Food-Storage.aspx). Neither met my expectations. Within days I had ants galore. Not good. The rubbermaid one looks good but the lid broke and no longer works. Didn't want to pay the money for a new one till I find one with good remarks. The only requirements that I have is that it can hold at least 40 pounds of dog food and be able to keep out unwanted pests.

Hi! I purchased my containers (on wheels!) from PetEdge and LOVE them! Our clinic also purchases the air-tight containers from them. Let me try to find the exact site for you! Hang on!!

OK! Here it is: http://www.petedge.com/Pet-Food-Containers-with-Wheels-ZX175.pro

P.S. I purchased the container that holds 50 pounds and I can actually fit 60 pounds comfortably in that container.

Based on other answers, I may not have a full understanding of the question. Are these new, plastic, airtight containers? If so, I don't see a problem with putting human food in them. Just because they're labeled "pet food container" doesn't mean you have to put only dry pet food in them. It's just a suggested use for the design of the the container. I would say, however, that you should limit the storage to only dry goods.

I own a farm, and of course, each type of animal needs it's own type of feed.... so feed storage became a HUGE issue. Animals which we only have a few of, animals for which we have to buy food six hundred pounds at a time... And all the time losing feed to pests, mold, and whatever..

We now use industrial sized barrels for the large quantity food (holds three hundred pounds per barrel)... and regular plastic storage bins for small quantities (fifty to one hundred pounds).

The containers made for holding food simply didn't hold up or didn't work. But, plastic storage bins with snap on lids sit out in the barn and never acquire ants, silver fish, moisture... nothing. Go figure.

Do you keep your pet food inside or outside? If it is inside, spray the floor with Raid, let it dry well, then place your container on the spot you sprayed. If you keep it outside, sprinkle a good layer of Sevin dust (in the lawn and garden section of any store) over the ground around your container. The Sevin will keep ants, slugs, and other buggy pests away from the food....not to mention keeping the flea population down.
