I'll be going to college in the fall so I'm going to buy a laptop. I have never bought one before so I don't know where to begin looking for one. Im looking for an affordable laptop that I can rely on.
I hear that macs are good overall but not so great for gaming.
im not sure about dell....
also, the specific games that I will be playing are Elder scrolls IV: Oblivion and World of Warcraft
preferably a laptop that has Windows xp

Dell is coming out with a new model next week. Right now I would recommend the HP 6500 with the NV 8400 vid card with a core 2 duo CPU and 2 GBs of RAM.

If you want a laptop that can play Oblivion, you better be ready to spend $2000+. Laptops are simply not intended for gaming, so you need to buy very expensive ones if you want good gaming performance. And considering Oblivion is one of the most demanding games out, you will definately need a top of the line laptop. Look at either the Dell XPSs or Alienwares. Now if this is out of your price range, then email me and let me know what your price range is and I will find something good in that range, but don't expece good gaming performance.

first off Oblivion is not compatable with OSX so you'll be sol with that.
macs are too $$$

Get a dell/hp with the following specs, or more

Core2Duo processor 2.2ghz or higher
1gb of ram, but 2 is highly recommended
at least a 7600 nvidia or x1600 ati video card
a seperate mouse (those touchpads suck)
and thats about it. get a 80gb harddrive or more
that spins at 7200RPM

and thats about it. get a 17" screen if you can.

Oblivion is a kickass game, i've logged 500+ hours on that game, have you played shivering isles, or knights of the nine???

I would try a Compaq i have one and I love it and i use it for collage and gamming
they have the better side of the grafficis and much faster
also look into getting a persono they will have Xp your favorit
Dell's ratings are going down
Hp is the second choice because it works with compaq
then there is trobishiba because they have more people and better proccing
then try Soney it might be expancive but look into it.
1. Compaq
2. Hp
3. Trobshiba
4. Soney
5.Apple
6. Dell
