I thought it was Domain Name Space or Server. You have to get the code from your Internet service provider, that much I do know.

If it is cable broadband it will put it in automatically ( set for cable setup)
If it is dsl broadband - phone your isp or it will be in you instruction book
You will need 2 - a primary and a secondary dns servers
info
The dns ( dynamic naming servers) are the computers that translate your writtten www
say www.yahoo.com into the numbers that the itnernet uses
if you knew the number for yahoo or google you could type it instead of www.yahoo.com
either it is in your instruction book or call your isp
ask for both primary and secondary dns servers
actually put these in
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
these are the info from opendns
It is a 3rd party dns that you are free to use and will speed up your internet greatly

It does not matter which dns you use - your isp or others just so long as you have a dns service

Your internet service provider will have sent you a letter with some details on it.
username
password
email address
etc.
It will also have listed a Primary DNS and a Secondary DNS.
These take the form of four groups of digits separated by full stops.
eg
Primary DNS: 252.082.035.092
Secondary DNS: 252.082.035.093
The numbers are usually identical but the last digit is always one more on the Secondary.
If you don't have these numbers, visit the website of your ISP and visit the FAQ section or telephone them and ask for it.

Every computer on the internet has an IP address.
These look like 123.45.67.8
When you type a website address into your browser, it tells a DNS server the web address, and the DNS server then tells your browser the IP address of the server the website is hosted on.
Ask your broadband provider, and they should give you 2 IP addresses of DNS servers, put these into it. Alternatively, you may be able to set your computer to auto-detect them.

Go to Start, Run, type in cmd and press Enter. In the black & white window, type in ipconfig and press enter and look for the number next to Default Gateway and put this in your web browser (usually it will be something like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). When it asks for the username and password, they are usually both admin (it will say in your ISP instruction book and if you're on Sky then the password is sky). The DNS numbers should be shown either on the main page or in the router's status page (it might also be under the advanced menu, it depends on what router you have).

Primary Domain Name Service
Whether a carrier offers to host a clients domain names on their DNS servers. DNS hosting means that a carrier has a server that resolves requests for a customer's domain name to the appropriate IP address, or vice versa. The primary DNS server is the server that acts as the most authoritative server for a particular domain.

# What is Primary vs Secondary DNS?
The domain namespace is divided into regions called zones. In order to maximize availability, the InterNIC requires that every zone have both a primary and secondary DNS server. For individuals and small companies, maintaining two DNS servers is impractical. An oft-used solution is to maintain your own primary DNS server and find a "friend" to be the secondary.
The Public DNS maintains two public nameservers, ns1 and ns2. When used for primary DNS, ns1 acts as the primary and ns2 as a secondary. You only need to submit a single request for primary DNS service to enable ns1 as your primary and ns2 as your secondary.
When used for secondary DNS, all of The Public DNS name servers act as secondary nameservers that obtain data by way of zone transfers from the primary of your choice. You only need to submit a single request for secondary DNS service to enable our name servers as secondary name servers for your zone.

you should only have to enter the dns servers if you have a static ip. try selecting dhcp instead of static on the router.
