would it be possible to use a 4GB Hitachi Microdrive from the old iPod nanos to upgrade RAM on a desktop computer? In other words use it in place of a RAM card with more space than the current one?

not possible since the memory access time would be wayyyyy to slow. You have to use real RAM with a hz rating of access time. Study that and get back to me in the morning.
Ok , but, also, hmmm... there is a new laser access optical reader capable of massive storage, but to write you need a 10k$ writer, and maybe in the future we could atleast store algorithms and number strings in this as a reference to compressing data for both ram and hd apps.
