2001, the Yankee comebacks, the final game, plus what was surrounding the whole situation (9/11). The Yankees revived a city that was in mourn, even though they didn't win. Now that series was amazing.

The 1991 Twins-Braves series was amazing. Kirby Pucket, one of the best Twins ever, hitting a homerun to win game 6 and then Jack Morris pitching 10 shutout innings so the Twins could win 1-0 in game 7. Every game in that series was won by the home team and there was so much drama.
Another great one was the Diamondbacks-Yankees in 2001. Luis Gonzalez getting the winning hit against Mariano Rivera with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 was just unbelievable.

I am baised so I will say The 1968 Tigers! Denny McCain was our ace (he won 31 games that year), but it was Mickey Lolich won 3 games of the series. PLus The Tigers were down 3 games to 1 against a very good St Louis team.
I love how Tim McCarver popped out to Bill Freehan for the last out of that series, but he always seems to forget to mention it when he does games on Fox. McCarver is a moron!
Also , that '68 Tigers team brought Detroit together again. People everywhere were talking Tigers and people were getting along. If you remember just the summer before there were huge riots in Detroit because a white cop killed a black person. I was only 8 during the riots, but I remember The National Guard was called in to restore peace, and that was scary.

Many sportswriters will say the '75 World Series between Cincy and Boston, and it sure had its share of drama and controversy and heroes. As a Sox fan, I can agree with that, as painful as it is. But for my money, the 1991 Series between Minnesota and Atlanta was the best. The pitching was excellent, the fielding was unbelievable, and the drama was great. Five 1-run games; 3 Extra-inning games (including game 7).

The 1975 is an obvious choice, but the overall drama surrounding 2001 may match it with the historians someday. There were some terrific games, with a couple of late game-tying homers in New York, plus Arizona's great rally in the ninth inning of Game Seven off the best closer of his time.
Throw in the whole matter of 9/11 and the tint that gave the atmosphere of New York and the country at the time, and it's practically a television docudrama.

2001 Diamondbacks def. Yankees. So many of those games came down to the wire, and the ending was unbelievable, with Luis Gonzalez providing the game-winning hit over Mariano Rivera. Best World Series ever.

Many people think that it was the 1975 Series Boston Red Sox v Cincinnati Reds. The Reds tookit 4-3. The Reds were called the BIG RED MACHINE then, but the Sox battled them to the end.

Good question and I see you are getting a lot of opinions. Historians will point to 1975 and as a Cardinal fan I could be biased and point to ten.
But my answer is the 1991 Series between the Twins and Braves.
