The answer is 'A': Coevolution

Coevolution is where one organism affects the selection or evolution of another. It can also be referred to as an evolutionary arms race, or the 'red-queen effect'. For example, think of a rabbit and a fox. There will be selection for an increase in running speed in both animals: the fastest rabbits will be able to escape the fox and so survive to rear babies, whereas the fastest foxes will be able to catch enough rabbits to survive and feed their young. It is known as coevolution, as an increase in the running speed of the rabbit population will lead to an increase in the strength of selection on the speed of the fox population. This means that the fox and rabbit population will evolve to run faster and faster over time (though there will be other evolutionary constraints that will inhibit an infinite increase in their speed!)

Stabilizing selection (which is what some individuals have mistakenly given as the answer) is where the extremes are selected against. A good example of this is child birth weight in humans. There is an optimal body weight for child birth weight that is best for the survival of the baby and mother. Babies that are born too big risk complications during child birth and may prove fatal for both mother and baby. Babies born too small are less likely to survive. The selection, therefore, is towards a central value, and against extremes of either side.

Directional selection, is where selection favours a particular trait over another. A classic example is the evolution of the peppered moth, where the favored trait of moth colour (light or dark) noticeably shifted to a darker shade in relation to the effects of human industrialisation in Manchester.

I am uncertain of what resource positioning means in this context, however I'm almost certain that it cannot mean the relationship between predator and prey - it would more likely be related to herbivorous interactions (where the resource is not as mobile)

A, coevolution is the correct answer. So why is there " thumbs down " on the only two people to answer correctly. Gareth B. deserves best answer here, for his good, explanatory answer. I hope this section will support the truth over personal feelings and ideology. This is not the social science section.

A coevolution

Interactions between prey and predator evolved over a period of time. Predator improved its aility to catch the prey while prey improved its aility to avoid being caught by the predator. Nature was a neutral bystander and allowed 50-50% chances for both. So the balance is maintained.

A. coevolution The predator evolves behaviors and adaptations to help it catch the prey successfully. The prey evolves behaviors and adaptations to help it avoid being caught and eaten.

C is the answer.#The Predator direct`s it`s attention toward the prey---hence-Directional.#Prey is selected as something the Predator will eat(example,a fox won`t eat a flower but will eat a chicken)hence, selection

I would guess B.

But it's also called, Predation when the two are at odds and the predator reacts with natures instint to prey upon the weaker animal for survival.
