i know Stairway is Stairway to Heaven and Freebird is Freebird, but are the songs cliched because otherwise i dont understand why they would have such a sign.

very.....they are like the only songs alot of people kn ow how to play so basically what they are saying is learn an actual original song instead of being like every other dork then you can come back and play the guitars lol.

It's somewhat of an inside joke, based on the idea that most customers while testing different instruments would play these songs (which beginners would probably know because of their popularity). I feel it became a widespread thing when featured on one of the Wayne's World movies. I also believe that any guitar store that has that sign up will not enforce it if they feel they will be making a sale.

Because the songs are classic, and people don't want to hear them botched up.

Also, those songs are REALLY long when one owns the full version.

Because the owners do not appreciate classic rock, and think they have to do their own work to be creative. Sad.

it's just because everyone tries to play them, sometimes badly, and they are sick of hearing them. i'm sure they just want people to be more creative and original.

they get tired of hearing it over and over. it's gotta suck hearing it over and over...especially when you get the bad renditions.
