Why no 'helicopters'--maple keys--flying around this year?

Why no 'helicopters'--maple keys--flying around this year?

I live in an area that is heavily wooded,esp. with mature Maple trees.Every May --except this past one--Maple keys would be flying all over,clogging the gutters,etc.Why none this year?

PS--I am NOT complaining;)

It could have something to do with the late freeze we got this spring.

I don't know where you are but I am in New England and we were smothered in them this year.
