because other people tend to only remember when you mess up versus your success (for example: at an award show, everyone will remember the person who trips or has a "wardrbe malfunction" but barely anyone will know who won the awards) so we are always being reminded of our failures which downplays our successes

That is a good question, In my opinion it is because there are a lot more bad things in the world than good. However I myself do not dwell on negative things, I am a very positive person. Dwelling on your failures in your life is just depressing and it puts you in the mind frame of failure. In order to have success in your life you must think positively. Things are only as bad as you make them out to be.

I think it would be because we FEAR our failures and the resultant anxiety causes us to dwell on them more than our successes.
Fear is such a powerful negative emotion that can play havoc with our life goals and aspirations. Learning to understand WHY we have our individual fears may help us to be more adaptive and come to the point where we can relish in our successes and not perseverate on our failures.

Failure stings and teaches us humility (hopefully). Success we take for granted and learn little from. The people that have had years and years of continued success with little failure are the most arrogant because they think the world belongs to them. Failure reminds us that no matter how hard we try we are not in complete control.

We do not always see the success. I had to write down what Ive accomplished since Aug. to see the success of what I completed.

When you are successful, you have done everything correctly, therefore no issues. But when you fail, you will always try to figure out what you could have done to be successful.

because we usually fail before we succeed but sum people think about their failures too much that they won't give them a second chance to succeed
