Well, if you think about it, we have evolved from nothing, to a level of intelligence that will allow us to reach outer space, build computers, cars, etc. We've evolved so much that it's at a point where we will have to no more, and don't have the chance to. We have conquered nature, for the most part, and so, on many levels, time, and are only left with conquering ourselves, and evolving spiritually. So only when there develops a new religion or movement, that everyone can embrace, even if they do not believe in the mystical aspects -- or perhaps we won't necessarily need those -- will people find the morality and inner peace to unite, for the greater good of men. Until then we're left to our own tribal and for the most part trivial squabbles, and violent wars, in which we all fight for basically the same truths -- just conveyed differently, and wrapped inside different lore.
It does seem like we're traveling farther from achieving this, as weapons become more powerful, the media more perverse and omnipresent. I've heard somewhere that only through dramatic examples will people be shocked and propelled out of apathy and complacency. Maybe this is nuclear war -- a new society -- though I hope not; maybe global warming and catastrophe; or superior leadership. I hope for the latter. It may be that the natural cycle of politics is similar to the one nature is subject to, and just as Rome fell, perhaps a similar, though hopefully less dramatic, change will occur with us, that will allow us to blossom. Think, every "good message" movie you see goes on about how much light is in the human, waiting to be embraced. Maybe this time will come, before it is too late for our planet, or us. Maybe we will learn to love each other, and put ourselves second or third to the next, and maybe the resulting light will be more powerful than the strongest fuel or technological advancement.

Your question has two answers.
If you ask when humans will stop killing one another, the answer is never. There will always be some people who will decide to kill the next guy for whatever reason. Its human nature, something too complicated to explain here.
If you ask when humans will go to space and colonize other planets, I would say not in the immediate future. One way to achieve space exploration is thru government programs. At present, governments are too much in debt to make a serious effort. The second way to get space exploration is thru private programs. For them to happen, space exploration would have to become economically self-sustaining. I do not see this happening in the immediate future.
I see space exploration farther in the future, as the situation changes.
I am optimistic, and hope we do not see an extraterrestrial hostile civilization. This is called the Fermi hypothesis, why have we not seen evidence of other civilization. For details see the wikipedia.

When you are able to overcome the conflict inside of you and this spreads to every human on the planet.
You want something so you do what is necessary to get it. You think you have 'property' and will do what is necessary to protect it.
These ideas are only amplified at the society level which is just a bunch of you with same interests. There are several societies.
Can you unite with you? It cannot happen.

when a vote on a world union is held when people call eachother human, not catagorise by skin colour. it will happen when issues are resloved through the ballot box instead of through warfare when anyone anyplace can effect the outcome of decisions made anywhereon Earth with their vote. also when pacifism is seen to be the key. when it is seen that it is pointless to get excited about another portion of humanity controlling another or to wish to destroy another portion. no humans are better than others all have equally fascinating histories. the Nazis were of the belief that Africans were inferior to Nordic types. Africans have a history as old or older than that of the nordics. so no inferiority there. all humans are equally disgusting in their propensity for criminality to single any particular batch out for it is ludicrous. the reason of course one particular group was singled out was they were is easy targets or at least targets which presented little risk and best of all it appeared no one cared what happened to them. this should tell anyone else that if they are murdered enmass none is going to lift a finger to prevent it. so the Nazi thing was done. but there is no reason for anyone else to dream of doing it again as it has been defeated. there are different ways the symbols that were used could be used today instead of standing for what they stood for could be used to promote peace as war is the true enemy. what coyld be done instead is to turn the ideas on their head and instead work towards keeping the world at peace for one thousand years. it would truly be a miracle if it could be managed. even four years would be a miracle, even getting the world to be at peace for one hundred years would be fortunate.likely this will not be done and blue swastikas and peacekeepers under the eye of the UN wearing them would be a considered a bad idea and the idea of Neo Nazis changing their ideas and instead working towards peace and seeing defeating war as hilarious. if they see consiracy in war then to help end it would be the best approach. to blame one set of people is clearly erroneous besides Nazis were all about warfare. and all the wars in Africa were fought by Africans against Africans. actually humanity is responsible for warfare so it is the task all humans have to end it. so if they desire to defeat their enemy then to bring peace is the way. so by bringing peace to humanity is what should be done so what should be said instead is this''they want peace they want an end to war so let's dispense with war ''

You are so right. If we could get everyone on the same plan we would have a great start with a united world. The whole world could work together to solve problems of famine, drug abuse, pollution, energy, etc. We could have a world education plan for all children. We could direct our efforts into space exploration of other planets.
It's good to dream but even better to work on making it happen.

Never. Mankind is evil. As long as the old politicians who dont have a whole great deal left, care only about how much money they can push whiel they're still in office, never. It's up to the younger generation, and with the decrease in morals, and the plain old stupidity of my generation (18-ish), i dont know that it's not a lost cause.

Plato said that the only people who have seen the end of war are the dead.
We will not unite until some all encompassing factor motivates us to do so, sadly, as Plato feared, that may be death.

An alien invasion will not bring about the change that you would like to have happen. As with any other conflict, there will be those who fight. There will be those who capitulate. There will also be those who conspire with the enemy.
I'd conspire with the enemy-- especially if the enemy was of superior intelligence and power. I have no loyalty to you.
