i just recently got a xbox 360 and it will not let me play it on live.it said i need to set my ip adress to automatic. PLEASE HELP !!

IP addresses are fixed and cant be altered. When you connect to the internet, your provider allocates the address to you. It cant be changed.

If you are talking about your public IP address, it is assigned by your ISP and you do not change it yourself.
If you have a router, it provides IP addresses to the LAN automatically in the same fashon as the ISP provids public IP addresses to its users.
I suspect you need to set the XBox to obtain an IP address automatically and make sure that your equipment provides IP addresses automatically by DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).
