I caught sight of him and his tail is worse then before and his eyes are huge. what happened and what do i do??? also, i had bought a 10-30 gallon heater for my tank, i have a 10 gallon tank with a filter, however...this is the 2nd heater i have bought and it will not heat the tank! it just sits there and its plugged in and the water is still below 40 degrees...how do i keep the water warm without using a heater now??

You must do water changes about every 3 days when treating the fish for fin rot. Are you sure your thermometer isn't broken? Wouldn't the temp in the tank be the same temp as the room? You can use tetracycline or Triple Sulfa combined with Fungus Eliminator for the fin rot. Change water every third day and add a new dose of same medication. Continue until fins/tail stop receding and start showing some new growth. This may take up to 4 weeks. I am pretty sure you can continue to use the Maracyn 2 with the other medications. Good Luck!

Why is the water so cloudy? You should do a water change! The waste in the water is not doing your fish, or it's condition any good.
There is usually a knob at the top of fish tank heaters that you can use to adjust the temperature. The heater may be off.
Also, you need to let the heater sit in the water for 15min- a half hour before plugging it in so that it can adjust to the temperature and heat the tank accurately.
You definitely need to do something about the heat, but if you raise the heat too fast that could stress the fish out so much that it will die. Ideally, the temperature shouldn't change more than 1 degree every 8-10 hours, but if it's below 40 that may kill the fish.
It will be a miracle if you are able to fix these problems, and keep the fish alive, but I wish you the best of luck.

i usually use maracyn for fin and tail rot and it works ok -- there is a difference. usually clean water is the best medicine for fin rot. i don't know how you get a 40 degree tank in the summer unless you live really far north. you would have to get a really bigger heater to heat water 35 degrees. they usuallly aren't meant to heat the water more than 20 degrees above room temperature. maybe they keep breaking because they are forced to run too much. i don't know.

Where are you located that your tank could possibly be at 40 degrees? The water would go to the same temperature as the air after a while... You need to vacuum the gravel and do 10% water changes everyday for about a week. Good luck!

Check out this site: http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.htm

I found it very helpful when my betta got tail rot. I used Fungus Eliminator by Jungle and it did the trick. My betta's tail is back to it's normal beautiful size and shape.

If you want to warm up his tank without a heater, do a 10% or more water change and be sure to add warm (not hot) water. Take the heater back and get a new one. It is important to keep these little guys comfortable.

I'm not sure what to say...

Stop the treatment. Do a 100% change immediately.

i would stop using that medication and switch to Melafix, it doesnt change the color of your water. I would just clean out the tank and start new water and use different medication for treatment.
