they are if you plan them out correctly and stick to the plan. That means getting measurements beforehand, planning out what to buy (and buy extra for mistakes, save any leftover for repairs later so everything will match) do your homework first (ask for help .. you must know someone who has already made mistakes, they can save you from making them) and keep your safety gear in good condition. (trips to the ER really cut into your remodeling time..)
and never, ever try to skimp on the quality of materials. It WILL cost you more money and time to repair what got screwed up by using the less expensive materials..

There are always nasty shocks awaiting you. When I remodeled my bathroom, the new water pipes just would not fit; finally it was figured out that the house plumbing materials had come from Canada. Canadian measurements just the slightest increment off metric!!! Took two days to find a plumbing store that carried them. Two days **without water**!!
Always, always count on sh!t like that happening, never ever "quick"!

Only on HGTV or DIY network. Any project I attempt ALWAYS takes longer and costs more than I had planned.

not to my knowledge, seems those that we have tackled have unforeseen /hidden problems that someone tried to cover up with a quick fix, that usually cost us more time and money...
