my one month old gecko eats about 10 crickets a day... he is starting to shed today (and eating his shed) should I feed him tonight or will the crickets stress him out?

just give him a couple of crickets at a time and see if he eats them, if he does carry on feeding until he either stops eating them or until you have given him what he would normally eat

Baby geckos eat a LOT! A month old gecko will easily eat 10 small crickets a day. In a couple of months he'll be eating nearly 20. As they get older, they will naturally begin to eat less. Yes, they do tend to go off their food a little during shedding. It won't hurt to offer him some crickets and see if he's hungry. See www.reptilerooms.com forums for great leo info!

Ten crickets a day sounds a bit excessive, but maybe if he's so young it's ok (I wouldn't know, I fed my leopard gecko mealworms when she was a baby). My leopard gecko is a year old and gets 5 crickets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Maybe he's full? When leopard geckos shed they eat the skin that they shed for extra neutrients. Too many crickets in the enclosure can stress your pet, and might start to nibble on him. It probably wouldn't hurt to skip the crickets tonight.

Leos need fat after shedding. Go to the pet store and get a couple of wax worms. They are HIGH in fat and they LOVE them! I give my guy one wax worm a day and about 5 meal worms. I would say cut back on the crickets. They don't need so many plus you should mix it up from time to time. Crickets ar high in protein but not much else. So keep giving him other stuff as well as the crickets or get off the crickets and just mix in a little gold fish food in w/ the worms. That will get them all the protein they need. Get a worm bowl or he/she will never find the worms there about $2-$4. Good luck! =)

If your gecko eats 10 crickets a day, that is way too many. I have a gecko and you are only soposed to feed them every 2 to three days. You are just waisting your money on cricket if you are buying them. Shedding is a natural thing so it doesn't matter if you feed him. It usually takes a good week for all the skin to come off anyways. What kind of gecko do you have? I have a Fat Tailed Gecko. Your gecko should eat about 10 to 15 a week. Put them in the cage all at once. He will eventually eat them before they all die!

yes they eat less and their poop will be more white, feed mealworms for fat to a baby leo and you won't have to worry about the crickets
