they have the same core. not sure about architecture though. Want to unlock the extra pipes if possible. And if you backuped the bios of the 8600 GT and once you flash your card and it doesn't work since the pipeline is defective, can you restore your backup bios of the GT version even in that condition??

The only differences between the 8600GT and 8600GTS are clock speeds, so in fact flashing the BIOS is not even necessary, all you have to do is overclock using nTune, but you would most likely need to put some type of aftermarket cooling on to deal with the extra heat. There are no extra pipes in the GTS.

i am sure you could, but it might not work anymore. if it is not in that card's support section I would not use it.
