All your answerers are right, however I think also you should try to teach an eight month old to entertain himself
Introduce an activity, spend some time, then walk away and watch for how long he can amuse himself.
Often parents who never seem to get a break have made a rod for their own back by spending every waking minute being babys' entertainment

They like lights and sounds, so if you have toys around the house the light up or play music, they love it. Also, toys that move. This will encourage them to start crawling. They should be able to laugh at 8 months, so a little tickling will get them laughing. Most important to them is that you're spending time with them. This is a crucial time because they know you by the sound of your voice, your smell, and even your presence. So, make sure you talk to them, read them books. Even at 8 months, they love to just hear your voice. Try playing paddy cake, or this little piggy. Babies love to be touched too, so these games will help them know your touch, plus paddy cake helps with hand/eye coordination.

Try bubbles, they usually love them, though sometimes they get a bit scared! Now is a good age to sing and play with them, they love watching people perform nursery rhymes with all the actions, especially looking at your facial expressions.
They like peek a boo, because they learning that when they cant see something it doesnt mean it no longer exists.
Dancing with them to music is always good! Then they're learning about rhythm too. Theres lots of things you can do, use your imagination! Good Luck.

Play w/ the baby!
Play pat-a-cake, read a book, go on a walk, sit on the floor & play w/ toys w/ the baby, stand the baby up on your legs & make eye contact & smile & talk.
Babies need attention, affection, & physical contact, spend time w/ your baby, don't just try to throw him in a play pen & leave him there all day.

I think the best way to entertain an 8 month old baby is by tickling it and giving it music to listen. (they're calmer that way).

TRY READING STORIES AND DOING VOICES AND MAKING SOUND EFFECTS. THAT'S MY NUMBER ONE CHOICE BECAUSE READING IS SO IMPORTANT AND TO START EARLY IS ALWAYS GOOD.........OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO ARE GET ONE OF THOSE BABY SWINGS WITH THE STRAPS TO HOLD THEM IN GOOD, GET A WALKER OR A STATIONARY EXCERSAUCER (THOSE ARE THE BEST BECAUSE THE SEAT TURNS ALL THE WAY AROUND AND THE BABY CAN PLAY WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT TOYS ALL THE WAY AROUND IT). YOU MAY ALSO TRY PEEK-A-BOO, OR PATTY CAKE. ONE THING WE USED TO DO WITH OUR LITTLE ONE IS LAY ON THE FLOOR ON OUR BACK HOLDING HIM UP LIKE SUPERMAN, AND OF COURSE TICKLING IS ALWAYS FUN. GO FOR A WALK, GO TO A PETTING ZOO WHERE HE/SHE CAN SEE DIFFERENT ANIMALS AND TOUCH THEM, AND MY SON (EVER SINCE ABOUT 6 MONTHS OLD - I SWEAR BY THESE THEY ARE THE BEST FOR LEARNING TOO) LOVES BABY EINSTEIN VIDEO'S. I LET HIM WATCH FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR OR SO WHILE HE WAS IN HIS WALKER OR EXCERSAUCER. HE'S NOW 2 YEARS OLD, STILL ASKS FOR THEM ON HIS OWN, AND WE'VE BEEN TOLD BY HIS PEDIATRICIAN, HE'S WAY AHEAD OF HIS AGE FOR LEARNING!!!!! GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN I HOPE THIS HELPS.

peekaboo - with you, with a toy (hide a toy under a blanket and let him find it - again, and again, and again...)

books - bright, colourful pages

face parts - "where's my nose, can you grab my nose, no that's my cheek, where's my nose..."

simple stuff, but highly amusing to an 8 month old.

Good luck.
