There are so many series that I don't like, but the inspiration for this question was "Two and a Half Men". I can't stand even a second of that!

Thank you for your answer! :) Have a wonderful week! :)

'charm school' is on right now. what better way to learn to hate the young generation than to watch them fight with each other, lie and swear on national tv, and use fake accents to be someone they aren't. oh, and dress slutty and try to impress the so-called judges, who thankfully, aren't buying any of it. nice.

Virtual ALL the "reality" shows.

Big Brother - idiots trapped in a Hollywood set house being annoying 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Survivor - corporate America at it's back-stabbing worse, but without the dress code.
America's Next Top Model - catty women walking funny who are in to makeup and clothes with nasty attitudes and not much sense.
Fear Factor - Stupid people doing stupid things for an insignificant amount of money
The Bachelor / Bachelorette - Looking for Mr/Ms Goodbar on television under a contrived set of circumstances..and hoping for love? Not likely.
Pirate Master (is that the name?) - serious idiots pretending to be pirates. It's "Survivor - Halloween".

I can't even think of some of the other ones. I just turn off the television or put in a DVD.

Sorry Moon - but I'd just include about all the American TV we see in Australia. Apart from "Desperate Housewives" perhaps. It's the only show I watch on commercial TV. As a writer and former film maker myself I'm fascinated by the ingenuity and skill of the writer, the adept cutting of scenes and shots, and the very capable acting developing the characters consistently. I'm captivated by the writer's wonderful short cameos, revealing the character through sparse dialogue and action. And he never resorts to those tired old contrived "one-liners" US TV writers use instead of insight and wit, merely to get a recorded laugh. Yuuk! Otherwise, fortunately we still have a great national broadcaster here, in spite of politically vicious fund cuts minimising local production (so we get a lot of British BBC).

* Classical - "My Mother the Car". The basic premise of the show is rather appalling, where a man's mother dies and returns to life in the reincarnation of his automobile. I would not wish that fate on my mother. However, as I've not seen the show (thank goodness), I'm basing my answer on the premise.

* Recent - I don't have any names for them, but a number of television programmes on MTV from the 1990's (just after they stopped playing music) come to mind. The general concept is that people with too much money and too much time on their hands are trying to define what is "cool". In reality, they are simply the epitome of snobbery. It is simply a put-down on most people that have actual lives and live in the real world. (I've seen snippets of these.)

* Current - I can't think of any programmes that are currently in production that I can answer from first-hand knowledge, mostly because my television viewing habits have been reduced due to my computer habits and getting married a few years ago. I will remark that while I have no personal problem with many shows currently on, I do note with some lament that programmes have become more adult-oriented, such as "Friends" (which I liked). This stands in contrast to the shows that I grew up on, which were entertaining without having to resort to sexual humour or situations that are generally offensive to many people. That children are watching this is even more appalling.

I'm not saying that these should be censored, and I'm not playing the prude, but it would be nice to see television that can allow children to remain children without being patronising (as a lot of children's programming tends to be).

Addendum: I just remembered modern shows that play practical jokes on unsuspecting persons. (I can't think of any names as I avoid them with extreme prejudice.) Their spiritual predecessor, "Candid Camera", used the concept, but only went as far as inducing a temporary sense of embarrassment, one that the "victim" could later laugh at. Today's programmes of this nature stimulate sensations of fear and/or anger in their "victims", often requiring the use of bleeps to edit out words inappropriate for most viewers. These shows should be relegated to the ashcan in my opinion.

My hero! I hate "Two and a Half Men" too. It's SOOO stupid. I also hate "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Both shows remind me of how much crap our society will allow as entertainment. Call me a snob, but I think I deserve better programming than that. :)

After reading other responses, I'd like to add "Will and Grace" and "The Bachelor" to my list of loathed shows. "Will and Grace" totally stole the majority of their material from better shows that came before them. "The Bachelor" is glorifying the most pitiful of people on television. The ONLY exception to the rule are the original 2 who got married (Trista & Ryan maybe?).

I like most of the ones I have seen and I don't think they would be on TV if they weren't a hit. The only thing I don't like is when you feel they go on for ever with no ending in sight. I don't watch them continuously- I don't have that time, but I do watch the odd one now and then.

When I was staying at my friends' house for awhile, they used to go crazy over these shows (there are apparently several) that I believe are called Crime Scene Investigators, CSI. I suppose if you don't have a weak stomach, they're not too bad, but my friends would bring their dinners into the living room so they could eat while they watched the coroners do their . . . oh, no, I can't even describe . . . *runs to bathroom*

Green Acres, its one of the corniest shows Ive ever seen and not funny at all. Ive also heard an old b&w series unofficially holds the title of worst sitcom ever and that was "My Mother The Car" although Ive never seen it all.
