If you don't have a full water test kit take a sample down to your local pool store and have them check for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates

Send me the results or post them back here so we can get you on a schedule to a clean pool. Don't purchase anything from the pool store at this time, just tell them you have what you need at home. While their products will work just fine you can use the same products sold differently for a fraction of the cost. I don't sell chemicals, I do consulting work and pool facility administration so I'm not going to sell you anything, but I can teach you how to operate your pool at a minimum of cost with pristine results.

Yeah! Wait for the time you return!
Replace the cover, and proceed with your job!

The pond requires intense investigation. It is a bit time consuming, but the time and labor will be worth it.

After you return, test the water of the pond and he water that you use.

Next, siphon off the water.

Then, keep the pond dry for a day when you have the pond checked for any leaks!

After that mark it with sections, Use the services of an expert.

If the water you use is given the nod by the lab, start filling it section by section. Wait for a day to recheck if it turns green again. If it does, immediately siphon the water, and have the section rechecked for leaks.

Proceed only if the water does not turn greenish!

Ultimately you will enjoy a hygenic pond.

Throw in a couple of packets of Shock and run the filter this is very normal with standing water. Next get a chlorine float and some tablets
