To have the highest swim band or whatever, what do you have to do? I know you have to pass the test, but what exactly is on the test?

Each YMCA Camp has its own requirements. You should call and check with the camp. Our camp had 4 levels:

non-swimmer (red) - no swimming experience, no test required, allowed in the water up to their knees

primary swimmer (yellow) - swim 15 yards of doggie paddle or crawl, float on their back, can touch in 3' of water, allowed in up to 3' section

secondary swimmer (green) - swim 25 yards of crawl and 25 of backstroke, tread water and float on back, allowed in up to 6' section

advanced swimmer (blue) - swim 50 yards free, 50 breast and 50 back, treat water, float, allowed in all sections incluing out-of-line lake areas

Maybe this will help!
