We are considering buying land in Vermilion, Ohio. The land used to be a large farm, which is being divided into 30 lots 2-3 acers in size. The people who buy the lots are free to pick any builder that they choose. The lots are fairly priced, but I would like to try to negotiate lower. Can I offer a lower price like I did when I bought my current house? What else should I keep in mind?

You can offer whatever you want to offer, and they can refuse your offer if they so choose. Whether or not they negotiate will be based upon how popular the sellers think these lots will be. You may be able to negotiate on some lots and not on others. Those in the subdivision which are considered to be 'prime location' will probably be priced higher and much more difficult on which to negotiate. The ones considered tougher to sell may be priced lower and easier to negotiate a price on.

Interesting, in Minnesota builders buy lots from the developer, then sell home packages. Anyway, to answer your question, yes I see no reason why you could make a reasonable offer.

when you are buying, when you are selling, everything is negotiable except that which is illegal.
