A mid life crisis is when we act outside of what is considered for our age group. It is the enactment of ageism.

Generally, the midlife crisis is applied to men and women of their forties, or there abouts. It then means that we consider certain actions or behaviours to be associated with the "young".

A person having a midlife crisis is someone who is being judged by others.

A Mid Life Crisis is when an old women or man becomes a young fool and stops looking in the mirror because they don' like what they see there. They slip off their wedding ring and go out to a bar to try for the life they think they're missing. There's a gay saying, " A Sugar daddy is an old fossil with a limp tassel who thinks he's colossal." This is just another picture of the same sexual crisis, the panic over losing something one probably never had in the first place. Most people have the good fortune to outgrow it, and to have loved ones who help them laugh at the inanities of life (If they don't burn too many bridges along the way). This crisis can be one of the most expensive and damaging of personal and social dysfunctions.

A midlife crisis occurs when we reach a certain age (the precise age depends on the person) and begin to question whether all the hopes and dreams that we had as a younger person have all come to nothing. Sometimes it occurs when the hopes and dreams have been obtained, but they have not brought the happiness that we thought they would. Often we respond to this crisis by trying to radically change our lives and act younger. Often these radical changes are made at the expense of broken promises to family and friends.

The crisis is grounded in the beliefs we create about ourselves. These beliefs about how we should act, what we should do, and who we should BE result in our judging ourselves harshly. When we learn to love ourselves without worrying about whether we are good enough to be loved, the crisis passes.

A mid-life crisis is when you realize that you haven't done all the things you want to do in your life and time is running out. Some people panic and behave erratically.

In my opinion, it is when someone thinks too much about their age and do not realize that they are afraid of getting older and unhealthy etc. They react in unusual ways, extreme money spending, hanging with much younger people and such. Everyone has this fear, but those who show it in unusual ways are said to be having a midlife crisis.

It manifests differently for different people. Basically when people reach the middle part of their lives (40's/50's) they begin to question many things about their lives, their choices and they start experiencing the loss of their youth, both physically and especially in this culture/society on many levels. It is unfortunate, as many societies revere their aging populations, while this one is focused on Paris Hilton images.

It's a denial reaction to fear of aging.
