So few roles are written for us. They are also very stereo typical. We are always the gangster, the martial artist, the nerd...etc.
I think Lucy Liu and Sandra Oh are doing a very good job in opening doors for us. Asian Americans are just as capable with most roles on TV as their Caucasian and African counterparts!
Why can't one of the housewives be Asian? Why does it have to be the maid?
Why can't all those detective shows have an Asian detective?
Why are there no Asian actors in soaps?
Why are there no talk show host with Asians?

Memoirs of a Geisha was a great movie and I believe it won three Oscars. I think the main reason that Asians aren't portrayed much in USA movies is the fact that most of the actors here are white Americans, and most of the movies are about white Americans. The same thing could be said for American Indians, too. Dances with Wolves was a one of a kind movie, and I was glad to see that it was made. There aren't too many good movies with many minorities in them. And if there are any, they don't do well in the theaters. Some people can't get past the accents. Somewhere in Asian countries is a white American asking why Asians don't make movies with white people in them. White Americans are the people who buy most of the movie tickets in the USA, and most of the writers, directors, casting directors, producers and so forth are white Americans. People write what they know.

Good question! The last good "Asian" movie I remember seeing was "Joy Luck Club"; I personally think that Hollywood writers have been in a "rut" for several years now; everything is a rehash from years ago...perfect example: Nancy Drew from the 1930's...

I guess because a lot of people are racist...
Most people probably think that their movie/show wouldn't be attractive...
They are probably racist on this inside and have bad thoughts about them but don't speak out or say it to their face..
i think breaking the addiction of not hiring asians would be great...and it can be somthing different for a change..

A few are starting to cross over now so it might take awhile before roles will become available, even though there are a few well know actors like Jackie Chen. :)
