you can involve yourself more in your church or community, friends, if the depression continues to be a problem you may concider speaking to a doctor about trying a medication, i wouldn't put it off for to long, if you think it's temporary, take a look at your life and see if anything is missing. if it's something you can get like more time with your friends and family.

The first step is to acknowlege what is causing the depression. Then work through it by writing journal entries, going to therapy, etc. Secondly, it sounds like you might have depression. I have it and was surprised by my diagnosis (because I was numb as well as depressed, but that is a different story). If you have depression you have a couple options. You can begin treatment by taking medication and staying in therapy while coming up with coping mechanisms. Also, if your depression is less serious, you can do yoga ever day (it works for some people and has the same chemical release as the pills do). Now, finding the right medication is terrible and tedious but once you do it is amazing. The change is amazing. If you do not have clinical or chronic depression, then do not take the pills. Just try to work through your issues (you might have some issues bubbling under the surface that you do not know about until you explore) and be patient with yourself. Also, excercise is great for depression (although getting the courage to actually begin is tiresome in itself). Meditation is also great. Before I was diagnosed and I had a depressive episode, I began to exercise every day for 3 hours (it was part of a program). After three weeks, I was happier than I had ever been. If you do not have enough resources to find out if you have depression, then try this. Join a club or start working out with friends. No matter what, do not let your relationships go down the toilet. They are your safety net and will catch you if you ever become suicidal (it sounds like you are medium risk for this, but at least you still want to be happy).

The first step I recommend is a fit body a fit body is a fit mind. Start excersing no matter how small the excercise is or what it is and start increasing what ever it is. Walking, running, skipping, swimming are some simple excercises that are simple and cheap and you won't believe how quickly you will feel better.
Also work out what you is dragging you down and then work out what you can fix or change and what you can't. take life a little bit at a time and know that life will be better.
I was talking to a man was a prisoner of war and suffered torture he use to say to himself, " If this is the worst things that happens to me then I am lucky." Those were the worst things that happened to him and still he survived.

In my opinion, the best way to ease depression is to join some kind of group. I'm not talking about a support group, I mean something fun and interesting. I took a yoga class and met a lot of people. Yoga is great for easing depression, it uses the body and the mind. If you're not into yoga, join a swim club. It's impossible to be depressed when you're swimming. One other suggestion: take a summer evening course in your local college. Something fun like art or pottery making.

Hi theres books you can read.
Mind over mood
Overcome Depression With Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
I think reading these will help and speaking to a psychologist.
Exercise as body releases 'happy hormones'.
Theres herbal medicine but not sure what they are called.
Personally i would try and avoid medication. However if your doctor is confident about it and you want to then so be it. Always ask questions about what you are taking.

Like someone previously said, you could involve yourself in the church of your choice. There are many things they offer, namely intimate bible study classes where you can make great friends and most importaintly grow a great relationship with God. I really like to stress this, but if you're really against "religion" try joining a book club or something where you can surround yourself with friends who share the same hobbies and interests as you. If the depression continues, I'd advise seeking help with a therapist or pshchologist.
