Jae Hood
Murs
Papoose
Those are my three favorites because they go hard (with the exception of Murs) and they have wayyyyy more talent than most of the mainstream artists you hear on the radio today. What they say actually has some substance, instead of just making up dumb dances and talking about buying dranks and wiping each other down. Murs is more softspoken and talks about lots of different issues and his is more of a mind thing, like the things he says make you think. He admits to not being so popular and even admits to not liking the majority of rap music because he's "more Coldplay than he is Ice-T."

Little Brother is my all-time fav underground crew, even now without 9th wonder. Check out "Carolina Agents", "War", "Welcome To Durham", and "Hiding Place" for my reasons why. Also The Foreign Exchange, Deru Tha Damaga, Mos Def & Talib Kweli (of course), Masta Ace, Murs, and Cunninglynguist for starers.

Mainstream really is starting to suck it up. Anyway, my favorite underground artist has to be Murs. I like the way he has a steady flow, which allows his great production (he's not a producer, but he always has good production) and lyrical skills to shine.

Jon Young and and Saigon.
Saigon has a track that got a little exposure - "Pain In My Life" featuring Trey Songz.
It's a really good song.
It kind of reminds of Nas in the style of it, the whole "street" vibe but I have to say Saigon isn't as good as Nas lyrically.

One Be Lo, because, quite simply, he is the best emcee of all time. check his work on the Binary Star classic Masters Of The Universe, then on his 2005 album of the year S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. And he is supposedly coming out with his magnum opus this year, L.I.F.E. He has other albums too, like Project F.E.T.U.S, and S.T.I.L.L.B.O.R.N., but they are kind of like mixtapes and compilations, so it is hard to judge them. He also has the best wordplay I have ever heard. Even if you don't pick my answer as best, you owe it to yourself to check him out, because he is incredible.

Just one verse off of one song, check it out
"We hard to the apple core, raps galore at your door
Pull crowds like a magic sword, exca-li-bor
Travel north on a saddled horse, on a battle course
Rap in codes, tap in morse, Lo never lack the force
You need to practice more, you ain't in my cat-e-gor
I rap for sport, Trackezoids got my back support
So pass the torch, and of course, I can rattle yours, ask for more
The more the Marry (merry) get your raps divorced
Slice like a razor blade, mix tape brigade
Raps erase ya data- base, snatch your flavor, call you Gator-rade
Trying to get major paid, like the upper class?
You can't escape from the wrath, sufferin succatash
Bust your ***, with a duffle bag, full of mustard gas
Fingertips equiped, with a touch of class
We touchin' fans, we trust no man, here comes the plan
All we need is just a chance, we must advance."
