Ok, Once you are in the water-your blood flow will stop. Sharks will not attack you because of your period. Interestingly in South Africa it is documented that Great Whites attack men(specifically surfers) that have just peed in the water. Some kind of hormone the sharks do not like.

However, you should not go hiking in the woods while you have your period. Bears are known to attack because of the smell.

Blood does draw sharks. It is never a good idea to go into the ocean with an open cut, or when on your cycle. As for urine, the ammonia in urine is similar to that given off by dead or wounded fish and may also draw a shark. Why tempt fate. If on your cycle, swim in a lake.
While shark attacks on humans are rare, they do occur. Statistics show that you are more likely to die by drowning in the bathtub then by shark attack.
