What is your take on land mine removal, how would you do it and why? I am looking for intelligent answers to solve this deadly problem, not the 'two-pointers' !

I have done some research into this topic, before posting it here, but I am interested in answers from the Y/A community to get their drift, afterall, if we all put on our thinking caps, someone could solve this very serious problem, and save thousands of innocent lives in the process!

Well, if you have taken the time to research the issue. Then, you would have found that several countries and organizations are approaching the problem from several different directions.

The U.S., for example, not only provides trainning, support, and money to teams of men and dogs to search out and remove, but is also researching the possibilities involved with computer driven devices that use a many different sensors to detect mines.

N.A.T.O. was just recently in the news with the testing of a "weed" or plant that is fast growing, hardy, and in the presence of a land mine turns a purplish red.

That's just a couple off the top of my head. I would suggest you do an extensive web search for more.

Pretty interesting, isn't it!!!

Some sort of explosive sniffing autonomous robot would be my best response or a very sturdy plow to go over the ground in question and dig up the soil yet be immune or resistive to the explosive forces----most land mines are small to deny ground personnel from an area and could be dealt with if a vehicle were properly armored to deflect a blast. Some people have offered a solution by using a large heavy roller to detonate any mines and clear a swath for travel, then come in with detectors to expand the swath.

Hi land mines are removed for obvious reasons, They were widely used and now the war has ended the areas are inhabbited locals are being injured killed and mained but those land mines left over

Land mines like all bombs need to be set off, land mines have a switch or sensor on the top when pressure is applied it is activated when the pressure is released it is detonated.

Land mines are deactivated by taking the switch or sensor off (they unscrew from the top) some land mines where booby trapped or are unstable The arm do controled explosions on them by backing an explosive around the mine and covering it with sand bags then it is detonated from a safe distance
