= 9x^3 -36x^2 +9x -x^2 +4x -1
= 9x^3 -37x^2 +13x -1

Not sure what vertical multiplication method implies but.
(x2-4x+1) * (9X-1) =

9X3-36X2 + 9X
- (X2 - 4X +1)

= 9X^3 -37X^2+13X -1
