I recall, years and years ago, playing an euchre-like card game at the cottage. It was suitable for young children to seniors, and seemed to allow any number of players around the table. Someone suggested it was "Hearts" but that game allows a maximum of 7 people, and I think as many as 9 or 10 of us used to play the game I'm (sort of) remembering.

If you know the name of this game, please tell me. I can probably look up the rules online. Or, if you want to suggest card games for the family at the cottage, I'd love that too.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, it's definitely not bridge, but thanks for trying.

Thank you. I'm certainly willing to pack more than one deck.

Wow, very few card games for that many players come to mind (you are limited to 5 to 6 cards per player with a 52 card deck, although you could pull this off with a trick taking game without a draw pile...such as euchre). I couldn't even venture a reliable guess as to the game you remember, though.

As for suggestions, a lot depends upon the number of players and your previous card play experience. I would suggest you do some research about games that fit all kinds of different categories (no. of players, mechanics, objectives, etc.) at the following web site:

http://www.pagat.com/

You will find more card games than you could ever imagine, all collected by category. Rule explanations are pretty thorough and easy to digest. You may even find that elusive game that you are seeking out.

If you can pack multiple decks (or if you can stop by WalMart and pick up a ROOK deck), you can expand your possibilities even more.

Have fun and enjoy your time with your family!

The card game our family plays is called Hand And Foot, It is exactly like Canasta, with some variations. First off red threes count 500 points against you. You have four decks of cards, but since you have ten people playing go with eight decks or even ten decks. Everyone shuffles the cards and everyone deals two sets of eleven cards each. You draw two cards each. To start the game, determines what cards you have on the bottom of the two piles dealt to you, which are passed from the person on you right. The highest card starts first, if the highest card is the same, the other stack that you got is the tie breaker. Drawing two cards, means you need two canastas, but in this case, one canasta has to be red and the other black. The going down points is determined by the points you have accumulated. You cannot go into the foot or second stack until you have layed all the cards down using the points that is needed.
0-2995 you need to meld 90
3000-7495 you need to meld 120
7500-10000 you need to meld 150
beyond 10000 game is over.
