Makes me mad, when I have to leave my babies and work and others sit at home, not trying to improve, with free food, utilities and RENT!
I thought about the easy way out too, but can you imagine living on maybe $400 a month!!? How do they live is the question. Many of them have better furniture than me, and I work, so the system is corrupt.
Some people need help, some people want help, and others are abusing the system!
FYI: There are more white people on section 8, you just don't hear about it because they are in houses not apts! .. A dirty little secret... Thought I'd share - It's not about color it's about principle!

Well the majority of public housing is in projects. You don't want to live there. But yes I agree that too many people use the entire welfare system as a crutch. I think that everyone who is within the poverty level or just plain can't make ends meet should at least be assisted with their rent. Maybe $100-$200 a month depending on the price of the rent. And I say this because even those who do work need help from time to time and they are exactly the upright people who get denied from these ******** social workers down at the county. It is hard out there and it does not help that all these "baby mommas" sit around on their fat arses and collect money, food stamps, section 8 and sympathy.

Marijune, I'm afraid you will receive an email from the "Violation Police" here on yahoo. But I understand your fustration. I'm sure it was a Democrat, probably back in the 60's. Hang on tho, the flow of "can't afford mortgage" homes is now hitting the market, devaluing the neighborhood as well. Which means the Sec8 rental properties will be at a premium.

when section 7 ended...
But seriously, you can't judge people, because you don't know what happened in their life, I used to think the same thing. I've met (in my line of work) plenty of older people w/no $$, disabled, war veterans, retirees, that should get more from the government, some people deserve it. Some people are mooches of course and always will be, they'll jump on the wagon to get a free ride, so other ppl who really need it will have to suffer because of assss holes like them.

Well to all these whiners who want to blame a Democrat, try again.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) was enacted in 1974 by president Gerald Ford through the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and took effect in January 1975. It had bipartisan support, reportedly because liberal legislators shared its goal of extinguishing poverty and "urban blight" and conservative legislators appreciated the control it placed in the hands of private investors and the reduction it made in the role of the government.
Section 8 Housing refers to Section 8 of this bill, which provides for federally funded housing assistance.
Son of a gun. It was signed into law by GOP President Jerry Ford, rest his LIBERAL soul.
