What is this movie spose to be about? I mean yeah i know that these 2 teens are going to Spring Break...but why is the guy trying to kill them and everyone around them...and sometimes when he is really close to them and could kill them...he doesnt? I kinda dont get it...but i love the movie..i thought it was good.

the movie is about a psycho who likes to kill people for his enjoyment in the film he sorts of stalks the 2 teenagers and plays with them in a sense thats why he got close to killing them and didnt, he seemed to be interested in grace maybe because he thought she was abit like him and could relate to him or just basically was attracted to her the part when he jumped into the bed to her was sick. But at the end he smiles and says it feels good doesnt it maybe he wanted her as an apprentice or something in that way. It is a good movie just about a loner who feels the need to kill and torture people because maybe he was traumatised in the past. And also Sean Bean is hot :D

The original version is 1000 times better
but The Hitcher is a pyschopath...he likes to kill...with no reason and he plays with them like a cat with a mouse..he can kill them at any time..but likes having fun torturing them first.

I agree with DarkWolfman---the original is *much* better. Rutger Hauer was perfect for the role of John Ryder (i.e., the bad guy), whereas Sean Bean was not as convincing. I highly recommend seeing the original.
As the others have pointed out, John Ryder was a sociopath. He enjoyed killing and torture---playing with his victims like a cat does with its prey.

He a sociopath. He plays games with his victims and challenges them to kill him because he thinks he is invincible. That guy is right. It's like cat and mouse.

The way I understand it, The Hitcher wants somebody to kill him so he's trying to prompt the kids to kill him. :)
