We know that Barry Bonds is going to beat Hank Aaron's home run record, but do you think it's fair? They didn't have steroids back in Aaron's time, so their's no way he could have cheated. On the other hand, Bonds could have easily taken steroids and then stopped when the told him IN ADVANCE that they were checking for steroid use.

Aaaaah! Tell me what you think of all this and if you think Bonds is a phony.

I don't think any true baseball fan is going to accept Bonds' 'record' as legitimate. Sure, you can work out and build your body as you mature but what exercises do you do to make your HEAD get bigger?

The extra attention steroids has had by the media lately might make it seem like steroid use is fairly new, but it isn't. Although it wasn't watched as closely or talked about steroids (in various forms) were around in the 60's - 70's when Aaron did most of his HR damage.

Although I'm not a Barry Bonds fan, he's not phony. He genuinely arrogant. He says the media doesn't care for him, which they don't, because he won't tell them anything about steroids, etc... Phony would be like Bonds being this super nice guy to the media, and a dick to his teammates and coaches. He tends to be a dick to everyone.

I DO!!! I hate Barry Bonds!! He is such a cheater. More than half of those HR's are probably when he did take steroids. i hate him so much. We all know that he took steroids and so does MLB but they're not doing anything about it. They should not let him play baseball anymore and he shouldnt be able to be deducted into the baseball hall of fame. I know many ppl that hate him. He's such a loser and a cheater. I hate him so much that there isnt enough words in the world to describe how much i hate him. I could care less if he broke Hank Aarons record or fell off the face of the earth. I hate Barry Bonds!!! GO YANKEES!!! =)

i think bonds used steroids. however, there are a few facts that make me think he still deserves to be where he is.

1. if you think they didnt have drugs before the '90s, you are naive. cocaine and amphetamines were available, and noone tested for them. (aaron, i think, was clean)

2. bonds was never a skinny base stealer that didnt hit home runs. he was an average built guy who stole bases (still does) and hit home runs. in the late 80s and early 90s, he only hit 30-40 dingers a year, but that contended for the league lead every year. yahoo has a chart that puts the home run totals from bonds and aaron on a graph. with only slight variations, they are almost identical.

3. 2 years ago, he set a record for walks in a season. even if you take away the intentional walks, he still set the all-time record. in 2005, he had more home runs than strikeouts! an excellent hitter gets more walks than k's. this guy hit it out more than he whiffed!!!!.

4. also, steroids make hand-eye coordination worse. this guy has the best in the game, and maybe ever.

5. after the strike-shortened 1994 season, home run totals skyrocketed...not just the top guys, but EVERYONE. even the 5'9" shortstops started hitting 20+ dingers a year. as soon as this fact was brought up after the mcgwire/sosa home run race in 98, we started to hear the whispers of steroid use. coincidence?

i dont deny that people have used steroids...i just think the side effects would hurt performance rather than help it.

I wouldn't go that far...if Barry Bonds was using steroids, they would have showed up in his system regardless of being told in advance of testing. I had always admired Bonds for the lack of phoniness about him. When he played for the Pirates, he wouldn't bow down and kiss up to the local press. The press in Pittsburgh (and nationally) expected him to be a modern day Step 'N Fetch, a caricature of a dumb black man (the Pittsburgh press still carried shades of racism evident since the days of Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell). Bonds was unrelenting in being portrayed as such. He didn't play up to the stereotype and was resented for it. When being interviewed then and now, you get the real Barry Bonds, warts and all. I applaud him for being real, speaking out against the unfounded attacks upon him. Bonds is a proud black man who is taking so much heat in his pursuit of Hank Aaron's home run record. I'm not really ready to convict Bonds of anything without evidence. Let the results speak for themselves, as he is the best player of his generation, and among the top five of all time. When he tests positive for steroids or HGH, then convict and crucify him. Until then, admire the greatness that is Barry Bonds.

no i do not think Barry is a phony , if any one is it Hank Aaron who is acting as though he could care less ,and not willing to accept that records are meant to be broken, steroids cannot improve your timing ,but another real phony has been bud who is an owner , and has always look out for the owners instead of looking out for the best interest of the game .

phony, no doubt
i think tht he does have to be a decent player without steroids though
he wasnt on steroids his entire career, when he was younger, he must have been pretty good
also, steroids dont get inside your head so you still have to have a good eye when your on steroids so that they can get the ball fly
i am 100% against steroids and i think that bonds was completely wrong to use them, which he undoubtedly did
i think that he should at least have a * next to his name in the record books, even though there is no actual proof
therefore,
PHONY

until he admits he did, or there is scientific evidence
i don't think you can say for sure.
he was a great player in college and pittsburg, and
all this media about him putting weight and getting big,
I was 6'3" 165 at 18, i am 6'4" 245lb I have become
much more muscular and thick, and I did not steriods.

heck Lance armstrong was dopping and even had
one of his samples from 4 years ago was retested
and was positive but the media does not go after him
as much, since it's a white guy. 7 wins in a row...
come on, he has to have been lucky, good and on
something, but he gets the benefit of the doubt, so
do the same for Bonds.

Remember in the old days there was not as much
attention on players, they scratched balls with sand paper,
used corcked bats, even sammy got caught doing it,
so just appriciate the great player he is, he won
7 gold gloves, thats not steriods ok.

I think he is.

I don't understand why MLB don't just suspend Bonds until it is proven that he did or didn't take steroids. I think that should go for any player that is under suspicion. I guess the players' union won't allow it. Sad that the union is more powerful than Selig and MLB itself. This is supposed to be a game.
