You did pretty good on naming all the bad things this country was. You forgot to mention the Mountain Meadows Massacre where the Mormons killed other whites.
Few other things to mention. There is no " right" for illegal immigrants or immigrants to enter the US. It still is a process and privilege, not a "right". Every country has some type of border control also. Many more stringent than the US.
The US is not allowed to go into the countries where "people are running from" to make them better. Unless of course, you're saying for the US to take over other countries. Why would the US spend billions and trillions to make another country better and then still have an immigration problem. "The Government" denies rights of gay marriages.? If you mean the Federal government, they have stayed out of this. It is up to each State and they are starting to line up with your idea of freedom.
It is a free country because you have just been allowed to rant about how terrible it is here. It is free because I am allowed to disagree with you.

All I'm saying is that I would rather live here than in a country where the government controlled EVERYTHING I did. And no one can complain about the government in the country when the people are the ones that put people in office anyway. Hmm. Maybe next time, we should vote for the most liberal person..the one that doesn't give a care what happens to this nation. Then maybe when the prostitutes, gangmembers, and illegals take over, we'll really have something to complain about.

As bad as it may seem, those were actions of the people instead of an oppressive government.
America is called a free country because of the main principal it runs on: if you don't like the government, you can vote it out. Also, your freedom to express your opnion and criticize is not directly oppressed.
While society may not always conform to this type of freedom, the freedom to voice yourself and take change is enough for America to be called a free country. It is the power to make change, not freedom by itself that counts.

this is a free country for the rich and the pompous and for those without compassion for different people.....for the rest of us...it's a prison of rotting morals...and supposed "christian presidents" that do things for the good of the nation......it's a sad world we live in....then again that is the reality of human nature.......my father is constantly afraid to speak against the government in public because he believes he will be persecuted....my family came from bosnia in '97.....and having experienced the war and the destruction of the mosques all throughout the iraqi war and post-9/11 has made hardened his heart against america when once he was an optimistic soul the day he came......
he still appreciates the minor freedoms, but he hates the government perverting the bill of rights and the constitution everyday

It is a work in progress.
Go read George Orwell's book '1984' it will explain words such as Free, Conservative, etc
Also check your history books that Search for Religious Freedom was another polite euphenism. Essentially European Migration is the story of over population and the subsequent explotation & abuse of resourcs.

diverse international places call Australia the "land downunder". Australians not at all use the term themselves - ever. We positively do no longer call North the U. S. the "land up and over" the two. we've plenty plenty greater useful names - none of which is additionally repeated in properly mannered enterprise.

You outlined some of our historical faults pretty well there Dylan. But, there is no denying that there are countries in the world now, where if you put your question up for public viewing, as you did here, you would probably disappear one night, never to be heard from again.

you really dont have any idea what youre talkin about, youre just spouting anti-american diatribe. im not sayin that this country doesnt have some flaws but its better than most. As for the "Land of the Free" its a name that harkens back to the bill of rights.

Apparently we are supposed to be free... but I don't think we are free. The government is lying while young kids in Iraq are dieing. We don't know the truth and we can't do what we want. We are told what to think and what to believe. We aren't free...
