Compared to British prices, is it very costly to travel across Poland? For instance, later this year I plan to take a train from Krakow to Chopin's birthplace, 60 km from Warsaw. Does anyone know how such a fare would compare with British prices? Would we be talking the equivalent of a hundred pounds or more?

Any ideas are appreciated.

The highest fare for a first class ticket (Intercity) from Krakow to Warsaw is 125 zloties, which is about twenty-five pounds. However, no trains go directly from Warsaw to Żelazowa Wola (Chopin's birthplace), so you'll have to take a train to Sochaczew (fast train, first class - 25 zloties = 5 pounds) and then a taxi to Żelazowa Wola (or perhaps there is a city transport bus there, I'm not sure. It is very close)

I just checked and it said $42 (usd) from Krakow to Warsaw, but it might be even cheaper since those are through raileurope.com, a good site to look up prices and schedules.
I took a night train from Warsaw to Vilnius back in 2002 and it was really cheap, like about $25 with a couchette included
and they gave free tea, croissant, candy, towelette, and shoeshine cloth to each passenger in the compartments.

Probably less than half that. The trains are better than the buses in Poland, by the way.
