It is just like reading any other serial device. You look up the format of the message, the parameters of its com port, and any signals (or incoming messages) needed to trigger that serial output in its documentation. You create a serial box with those characteristics. You link it to a box that strips off the data from the characters in the message. You then link the output of that math box into the graphic that gives a bar graph or a moving needle display from the scaled number and probably add the numeric value itself into a digital display box for completeness.

I did not find a model 230 but here is a link to the model 250.
the manual has a chapter on using the RS232 to communicat with the indocator. It most like ley will be close enouh to a model 230 to be useful...

From what I gleaned from the manual sending a CRLF from hyperterminal is enough to cause the 250 to squawk back with a weight reading....

If it is this simple then you should be able to duplicate this in the NI labview and log responses into excel.

What kind of dog do you have? Some breeds look real thin even though that is normal for them. I have a jack russell terrior with the same problem she looks soo thin but she's muscular & her weight is normal for her. Anyways...just stand on your scale & weigh yourself. Then get back on it holding your puppy. Subtract the your weight alone with your weight holding the puppy & that is how much he weighs! Good luck :)
