Well,
I am mixed black who grew up only around white people. When I got to college, many blacks isolated me and stared me down at the same time. I was able to rise above and win many of those who were trying to outcast me previously, as friends. Now, I have a white male I'm kind of seeing. I went to the movies with him the other day, and I saw a group of black people who have mixed feelings towards me, there. They called my name, and when I looked up and smiled, they just shook their heads. Now, I don't care if they don't approve of what I'm doing, but I feel they should either ignore me completely or acknowledge me respectfully. How would you handle this situation?

Sugarbear, you can't control how other people feel or think!
You might as well expect disapproval from some people, and while the black ones may be more verbal or open (=LOUD, lol) about their distaste, don't think for a moment the white ones, (although maybe silent) aren't feeling the same disapproval!
As far as the white male you are "kind of seeing", I bet every other Barbie either one of you knows is secretly plotting ways to get rid of you to have him for herself.... ( & that's where you need to watch your back)! Besides, you've read my theory on the ideal racial mates anyway, haven't you? (email me if not)

By college, ignorance, if still present, is pervasive! The best thing you can do is to make up your mind that you are the person you are, with the qualities you have to offer & go forward with your life with the mind of a woman, not the heart of a child.
Once again, the "mix" endowed you with the best of both worlds, Sugarbear! I know the isolation & confusion it brings in childhood, and I'm thinking maybe some of those wounds still haven't healed(?) but it's time to let it go! You don't have to "win" anyone over! Be who you are, & that's not a color! If someone doesn't like who you are, so what? F**k them! They won't get you in the pearly gates, nor keep you out....

Haha ......just ignore them. Im black and I get stared at a lot by black men when I go out with my white boyfriend. Of course there are other races who stare, but I tend to notice those of black men more because I know just what they are thinking about.

I feel really bad for you. You should probably just ignore them if they continue to treat you like that. I would tell them that I should be able to date someone from a different race without them being on my case. I would also tell them that I can't help being mixed and I didn't ask to be mixed, it's just how I am. They are just making themselves look bad for not being able to accept differences.

I ignore it. When I go out with any male other than a dark skinned black male, I get funny looks from other black males. I can date or go out with who ever I choose. That's not up to anyone to decide but me. So let them look... and smile back.

It's rough when you grow up in that situation, so many people stereotyping you and if you don't fall into what they expect from you then they think you are fake or something. But yes, they are two faced. Anyone who would be that way to me I would not consider a friend.

Those people are dumb, I face them every day and so does everyone else. Just ignore them and find your own friends, black or white. Good luck x
