They have a computer with an operating system and Internet service ... the computer runs on electricity, mostly powered by oil ... they employ all of these things together to come here to Yahoo and accuse conservatives of supporting big business?

It's selective (not "big business" in general). Few people dislike MicroSoft, for instance (griping doesn't count--we all do that!).

In fact the only drogatory things I've heard about people like Bill Gates have come from cons ridiculing his efforts to help his fellow human beings (guilty conscience, I guess).

But you do see a great deal of criticism of many large corporations--and industries. And it is warrented, mostly. To take the oil companies--they are whining they need tax breaks to invest in drilling for more oil or building new refineries. While reporting the highest quarterly profits of any corporations anywhere at any time in history. While spending millions in lobbying and "campaign contributions" in an attempt to defeat legislation they don't like.

No real conservative defends that kind of corporate behavior any more than liberals do.

Do all the great things you mentioned, that big business produced, have to be done at the exploitation of others? Industry holds huge potential. I don't think any progressive mind here is calling for the end of all big industries, for all big corporations, like you seem to be suggesting, but for simple justices like accountability, responsibility, and a conscience.

If you actually believe that's what progressive minds are advocating, then you need to reëvaluate your views.

I sure have. Haliburton is the only company in the world that does what it does in mining and oil production. It employs tens of thousands of people. I have answered questions here about them and asked what should they do just go out of business. The Liberals complain about Haliburton constantly. It seems they love employees but hate employers. They love the taxes the big companies pay and the taxes the employees pay but hate the companies that pay them. The oil companies report higher profits, so do the common folk that have stock in those companies. Every retirement system holds oil company stock. The profits do not just go into one persons pocket. It goes into hundreds of thousands pockets.

Because they're in Congress writing laws that only serve their own interests. Coporatism is as dangerous as liberalism.

Maybe more so, because apparently people seem to mistake it for conservatism and look to liberalism as the solution, when in fact it's essentially the same beast.

Big business is a wonderful thing. The crimes that some commit is what ticks people off. The right seem to wish to ignore ANY wrong doing by big businesses.

The unethical practices of some are horrendous. The right seems unwilling to hold big business accountable for their misdeeds yet scream for executions and harsh sentences when it comes to the poor.

The tobacco companies committed perjury before a congressional hearing about marketing to children, yet the right cries for them.

Oh, smaller businesses I've worked for seem more efficient and employee friendly.

They should since capitalism is the only market system that utilizes natural resources most efficiently. They won't waste them on things that won't sell. The environmentalists should love 'em.
