I really hate to do this, but...

1. Turtles, especially box turtles, generally do not like the same habitat you do- it won't WANT to be 'free-roaming'.

2. You CANNOT train a turtle to go on a pad. Bad vet, naughty!

3. Toys? Box turtles are not big on playing with toys.

4. Flourecent light? To see the turtle, sure. For its own health, they like rather shady places and need a little UVB lighting- which needs a special bulb that brags about offering UVB.

5. Natural sunlight is good... unless it goes through glass- then all of the critical UVB rays are removed from it.

6. Depending on the box turtle species, it needs special habitats- for example, the Eastern box likes moderate temps in the 70-80 range, and high humidity in the 85% or more range.

Please do a little more research. Some good sites for box turtles include:

So...you want a box turtle? They are pretty cool. If you want a HEALTHY box turtle you really can't let it roam around your room. It needs the right lighting and humidity and a free roaming turtle cannot get those things in a bedroom. It's okay to let it roam on the floor supervised for part of the day but be sure that it has a nice turtle table to go home to. You want your new pet to be healthy and happy...right?

Letting a turtle have free reign like that is a poor idea for many reasons.
A turtle cannot be toilet trained; your vet is wrong. Your turtle has no use for toys or play pens- that is simply ridiculous.
Set it up in a normal cage, the largest you can provide, and give it proper care, which you obviously need to read up on.

A guy should be extremely broad minded to accept her as a wife. But I feel you are conservative by nature. So she will not suit you and your lifestyle. Say NO to her. Als the girl is richer than you and she loves freedom. She must get married into a much richer family. She will not fit in any other place. So she is not your kind of a girl for sure.

You still need the lighting your windows filter out too much of the sun UV rays which reptiles need to process vitamin D. Here is a link to an online caresheet from B.A.A.R.S.

This care sheet is for both water and box turtles but it is one of the best there is I hope it helps.

Good luck to you and your new pet.

Well since he is going to be used to roaming around your room you should buy him a play pin in the fall. And you might want to get a small little light. But i am not really sure about the light issue, but I am sure about the caging deal.

Sounds like you have things already worked out, as long as you have a warm place for him to go then your good to go to school and have him roam the room. He will naturally find his way to the warmth if it is provided for him. good luck.

you could get him a pen and put it under the window, so that he has the light. just make sure that he also has some way to get out of it, if he so desires (turtules don't normally have this urge, but just in case....)
