Oh, that's a good question. In the SAT Reasoning test there was an actual article on it. It said that it's not only by seeing someone else yawn that you want to do it as well, but by reading about yawning as well! Believe it or not I seriously was yawning the whoooole time while I was reading the article!=) However, it said that the scientists haven't yet discovered the actual cause of why people yawn. There are many theories, but they all kind of have things that don't work to make them 100% true. So it's kind of hard to say why it's so contageous!

It's a form of suggestion. When one person yawns and others observe it, they feel compelled to yawn because of sub-conscience thoughts. Even writing this I found myself yawning because the idea of yawning is so present and obvious.

Yawning is connected with things being boring, so if a celebrity were to yawn durning a movie, many people would probably yawn in the next 5 minutes because of indirect suggestion.

because it is an action that we used to communicate millions of years ago to show the other the way we are and it is a way that was long forgotten but are bodies still do and as this is such we can see that we still have a somewhat primitve side
