No?

How about this, a computer model is a simulation program used to predict all sorts of events without having to actually cause such an event.

Computer models are used to predict the weather, like the most likely track of a hurricane.

Computer models are used to simulate train crashes, aircraft behavior, river behavior, animal migration, the spread of pollution and lots more...

These models work based on how known factors and reactions interact with each other. Then the variables are changed to predict a new outcome.

I take it you're talking about a computer simulation of a system. Examples of a complex system that can be simulated are: weather forecasting (mathematics and meteorology), DNA replication (biology), chemical analysis (chemistry), graphic design (general design), money markets (financial), Movie SFX (entertainment)...

Basically, specialists who workday-to-day with the system sit with computer scientists and discuss the detailed needs of the system that is to be modelled. This allows development of a program that can produce an identifiable representation of the real system Which is then used to allow the programmer to develop either one or many programs that will form the basis of the emulation. Running the simulation is expensive, it may be run on a single supercomputer or on many hundreds of machines (consider SETI)
