Go to your bookstore or library and get a copy of the latest "The Writer's Guide" which will provide all you need to know about publishing, and includes information about publishers, agents, and contracts too.

If you are not going to self publish, you need an agent.
Agents are the only way to get a manuscript submitted to a publisher. Many major publishers only receive manuscripts from professional agents.
It is more lucrative to get an agent and get published through a major publisher, but also harder to do as they have high standards.
Self publishing uses your own investment and whether your book sells or not is your responsibity.
If you DO go for an agent and go the big route, get a REAL AGENT that does not charge you anything up front and takes you based on the merits of your writing.

If you were asking how to get your books published, then this is what I know:
1. Well, first you have to send several copies of each story to three or four publishing companies.
2. Wait for them to reply. They will either agree to publish your story or give suggestions on how to improve it. You may need to correct your story several times before the publishing companies agree to publish it.
* Remember that it may take months before you finally get it published by a specific publishing company. That' s why you should send it to several at one time, because one of them might agree to publish it right away.
* Also, you should find someone to edit it for you to look for mistakes before you mail it in to be published. It will take less correcting afterwards, and therefore less time, if you get it proofread before hand.
Here's some good publishing companies:
Random House
Western Publishing Company, Inc.
Troll
Scholastic
Hope this helps,
S

My mom wrote a book, you need to send your book to a lot of publishers but you must beleive in yourself because you will get many rejection letters but half of the time they don't read your book, also find a book expo near you and talk to a lot of publishers.
