I'm a musician, and this word comes up all the time. We always say Pray-lood, which is close to the original French pronunciation.

I know they say it that way when there is a prelude in music (like a prelude to an opera). Maybe people just get mixed up with the musical term.
LOL I was never sure how to pronounce the car name.

Maybe they can't pronounce D. The E sounds like an A because the word comes from French.

Because they are ignorant and lazy, and probably have never had any proper guidence in that area.
Unfortunately this is common surely you have had someone want to axe you a question. In order to deter-mine whether or not to go to the buff-fet for some scrimps.

Why do some people pronounce library as lie-bury? I hear college kids IN the library pronounce it lie-bury all the time. Baffling.

the same reason pple pronounce PRONUNCIATION as PRONOUNCIATION.
They don't have a dictionary!
It's the standard preference to pronounce PRELUDE as PREL YOOD and the second variation that is accepted is PRAY LUDE

I've never heard it pronounced like that. I hate it when people say "acrost" As in "He's acrost the street".

I've never heard someone say it like that, but it might be because they've never heard someone say it, or a local dialect thing...
