To go to an reenactment you just find out where in your area they are held and when and go. To join in the reenactment you have to be part of the group(s) holding the reenactment.

To do this you can go to the web and find a group near you go to one of their meetings and talk to the members in other words interview them, a reenactment group is a society that does what they do for the love of it but some can be overbearing with their rules of authenticity. Read a book like "Reliving the Civil War: A Reenactor's Handbook" by R.Lee Hadden that covers reenacting top to bottom. Be aware that you will see more men then women as reenactors as the war was fought by men the only women in the camps would be camp followers, wives and laundresses of the troops Officer's wives, Christian Commission Women and Nurses or of coarse women dressed up as men to fight in war.

Research what you want to be go to web sites of suppliers and price your costume buy what you can and borrow what you my need. and go to your first reenactment. Good luck and I hope to see you at a reenactment.

I thought the M M Society owned this category? Why haven't they given you this link - - - it takes you to ever Civil War Reenactiment group on the Planet - - - mostly. And yes it can cost to join these groups, rates vary but once you get into making historic clothing & weapons and readjusting your schedule to accomadate your hobby, mucho money has been expended. Still it can be fun.

And yes you will find all wars represented out there. the UBER group is the Society of Creative Anachronism, the SCA a group living in the Medeival to Dark and even Darker Ages Past. Many of them are equally fond of the Civil War and you will find World War One and Two Groups out there just Google.

Peace....

Check with your local Historical Societies and see what the requirements are for membership. Most are simply self made clubs of people who did their research on the uniforms of the period and the military drills and weapons.
