Just another example of how shady politicians can be.

Obviously embryonic stem cell research is controversial. But why are we so focused on embryonic stem cells when we could be doing a lot more with adult stem cells and umbilical stem cells which doesn't involve the fetus? Seems to me that if anyone really gave a sh!t embryonic stem cell reasearch would be on the back burner.

All of you with ailing diseases, thank the democrats for proposing stem cell bills that have the embryonic components piggybacking on top of the adult and umbilical ones. They know that Bush will veto it.

democrats? last time I checked a lot of republicans supported this legislation. Including former senator bill frist who happens to be a doctor. I would waste my time trying to explain why adult stem cells are not as valuable as embryonic ones, but i'm guessing you have never had a biology class and wouldn't understand anything I told you.

Embryonic stem cell research has the most promise for results and less limitations.

The power struggle has resulted from the political machinations of Carl Rove, who put together a majority for Bush out of a minority party and a bunch of different single-issue voters, who normally would not have voted.

Since Bush can't outlaw abortion without majority backlash, his continued resistance to stem cell research keeps those anti-abortion voters in his pocket, by making it APPEAR that he is working for them.,

It's all about the money. As long as there is no federal funding, then universities and research hospitals will be unable to do any research. At the same time (since it is NOT illegal), private corporations will keep doing their own research, and will be able to protect their PATENTS and PROFITS. This is what private enterprise is all about. Private enterprise works best, and makes the biggest campaign donations, when PROTECTED by friends in government.

Do you actually think that the bio labs and drug companies care about alternative sources of stem cells? Hell no. They are going to go with what works. That's why the lame excuses are used to keep the law on their side.

Great point, there had been so much more research and results in the other kinds of stem cell research. And, no one is making it illegal. Some of us don't want our tax dollars funding the embryonic stem cell research.
