Society has deemed a lower standard to be more accepting.

Many people today simply do not have the religious training or moral ethics to appreciate being held to a higher standard. Most people do not want to except the responsibility that goes along with being a moral, ethical person. It restricts they're boundaries and freedom somewhat.

I guess that most people don't like to be held to a higher standard because they want to feel comfortable with their own standards. People that want to better themselves, people that know they need to keep rasing the bar will appreciate it. Unfortunately, a lot of people want to be comfortable instead.

It depends on the circumstances. Sometimes high standards are not necessary as long as the job is done. They are nice, but sometimes you can't get a perfectionist to do something. I like high standards when I am interested in doing something, but I am not interested in spending time doing my best at everything. I am only human. I want to do a good job, not necessarily the best job always. I want other people to excel also! ;)
