my next question is can the Ninja 250 cruise at 80 mph comfortably, without screaming, or near it's redline?

Get a 500. You will get bored of a 250 within a few months. And you may even feel a 500 twin is too slow after a while. First bike? Perhaps a 600 or 750 inline 4 cylinder or 650 twin(suzuki SV 650) Im 6'1" and 200 lbs and a 750 is perfect for me.

the 250 may be a little small for you, but the 500r shouldnt be a problem. if this is your first bike, might i suggest just going with an older 600cc? find a non fuel injected bike so its not overpowering. i am 6'5" and my first bike was a 97' suzuki gsxr600. runs great only cost $3k and was not too much to ride. my biggest suggestion, go to a dealership, sit on some bikes. everyone fits different on bikes. find one that is comfortable for your body.

Yes you are right sport bikes your legs are bent under you and cramps me just to think about it a 250 won't power you onto the freeway and if driven at 75 it will suffer and overheat. You need a 1 liter bike for your weight as much as size try some on at the bike shop.
