NO.
I was captain of my varsity swim team, so don't throw me any boos for not knowing what I'm talking about. Swimming is a competition. What it lacks to be a sport in my book is the ability to effect your opponent's performance. Football, basketball, baseball, you can change how well the other person/team does, but in swimming you can't.
It takes very talented people to do well at it and requires more physical preparation than most sports, but that doesn't change how I feel about it.

Are you kidding me?? Swimming is one of the hardest sports, most accomplishing sports, and most deffinatley A SPORT! I go to practice 6 hours a day, i travel all over for competitions and i go to junior olympics, and thier senior nationals, and what do you think micheal phelps does, in the olympics. Trust me swimming is more than a sport its a way of life.

Of course it's a sport, I mean it's in the Olympics and people compete and go to practice just like any other sport. Half the time swimmers go through a harder training and workout than most sports. It's one of the hardest sports both mentally and physically.

Of course it is a sport. I could not believe paswa's answer. Knowing your opponent is critical to your strategy in a race.. Do they have a finishing kick or not? If it is a medley, what are their best strokes vs. yours? How recently did they swim an event (are they tired)?. Do they have good turns? Can you control your wake so they can't draft you? Can you put on a sprint to break them at a critical point in the race?
Also, the person who said swimmers don't sweat is crazy. You just don't realize it because they are already dripping wet.
