Actually, this criminal act lies under the jurisdiction of the combined forces of both the pillow police and the mattress police, known as the PPMP.
It's best to plead guilty, they will often let you off on the first offense but tend to crack down on 2nd and 3rd time offenders. After the 3rd time they confiscate all your mattresses and pillows, forcing you to sleep on the floor. Just be sure not to remove the blanket tags, or you'll not only be sleeping on the floor, but will be doing so without covers!

actually no. You can remove the tag, only the store selling the matress or the manufacturer of the mattress, will get in trouble for removing the tag.
