You are kidding of course.

You would get back $10k if the check is good and

1) You have an account at that bank; or
2) You open an account at that bank; or
3) You are willing to wait a few days for the check to clear; or
4) You take the check to the bank that it is drawn on and present it for payment.

Options 1 and 2 are generally the cleanest.

If you had an account at that bank, you'd get $10,000. If you didn't have an account, there might be a nominal fee charged to you, but it should not be a percentage rate.

DEPOSIT THIS CHECK TO YOUR ACCOUNT AT ANY BANK AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE FULL $10,000.00. THEN YOU CAN ASK FOR CASH BACK OR WAIT A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THEN GET A CASHIERS CHECK TO PURCHASE WHATEVER BIG TICKET ITEM YOU HAVE IN MIND. BUT I WOULD NOT BE WALKING AROUND WITH THAT MUCH CASH IN MY POCKET, NOT FOR ANY REASON. IT JUST ISN'T WISE TO DO SO.

The whole $10K but not right away, there's a waiting or withholding period for checks to clear first and the withholding period can be up to 15 business days.
